“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet.” Stephen Hawking
Kloto is a daily reminder of our connection to each other, our world and our place in the universe. Helping us to remember to stay humble, to collaborate and to cherish ourselves and all that surrounds us.
We are part of the vast cosmos, existing in a delicate balance between chaos and order. Part of one whole, and all interconnected.
Over the course of history theologians, scientists, philosophers, writers, spiritual leaders and artists have sought to explain the workings of our universe and our existence within it. With each collection Kloto explores these theories, structures and philosophies in jewelry. At Kloto we seek to understand, to stay curious and to share in all we do.
Worn on our hands and close to our heart, these heirloom jewels are hand made in Istanbul. Designed to be passed from one generation to the next, they provide a physical way to realise our values and to convey these to the world.
Born and raised in the culturally rich Istanbul, designer Senem Gençoğlu, began her journey with Kloto by combining her family heritage and her passion for industrial design.
Senem comes from a family carrying Grand Bazaar’s culture and spirit with its long history of jewelry making and trading. She spent her summers working at ateliers gaining crafting skills and pursuing her curiosity for art and design from a young age.
Following her passion Senem studied industrial design at Rhode Island School of Design, one of United States’ most prestigious art schools. During her college years and after, Senem got the opportunity to design and collaborate with world-renowned designers such as Lee Broom, Marcel Wanders and Sevan Biçakçi in London, New York, Amsterdam and Istanbul.
Her experience and expertise in the field are mirrored through beautifully crafted collections combining functionality, artistic aesthetics, and meaning.
We create meaningful and timeless designs with a focus on local and responsible production.
100% made locally in Istanbul
Kloto’s authenticity, craft quality and expertise is rooted in a 40-year family heritage of jewelry making. In our family owned workshop we consciously contribute to our community of talent, skills and craftsmanship. We also partner with local artisans and value their knowledge and support the continuation of their work.
Environmentally Conscious Production
Our “modern craftsmanship” comes from combining traditional methods of crafting by hand and modern ways of production which requires considerable knowledge and insight at all levels. We produce with care, professional competency and respect for the material and the environment. At every stage of production, we try to minimize our environmental footprint, reduce our use of resources and dispose our waste responsibly. Our workshop is certified by Bureaus Veritas for both Occupational Health and Safety Management and Environmental Management Systems.
Renewable and ethically sourced materials
Our jewelry is made with recycled, responsibly-sourced sterling silver and gold. Precious metals are natural renewable resources and they can be recycled repeatedly without degradation in quality. All of our diamonds are ethically sourced F-G VS1 diamonds accordance with the provisions of the Kimberley Process International Certification requirements.
